Profile on Barbara Kruger

Barbara Kruger is an American conceptual artist and a lot of her work consists of black and white photographs which are then overlaid with captions in white on red. The typefaces used in her work were Futura Bold Oblique and Helvetica Ultra Condensed. Now the phrases in her work often have pronouns which are you, your, I we and they.  Her work often questions the viewer about feminism, desire, individual autonomy, classicism and consumerism.

While researching about Barbara Kruger I wanted to look at some more of work and while looking I found these two images and I really liked them, they just really stood out to me. 

Kruger was born into a lower middle class family in New Jersey, after attending Syracuse University, the School of Visual Arts and studying art and design with Diane Arbus at Parson's School of Design, in New York. She got a job designing for Conde Nast Publications. Then working for a magazine called Mademoiselle Magazine she was quickly promoted to head designer. Then later she worked as a graphic designer, picture editor and art director in the art departments for House and Garden.
